Data Architecture Product Owner

At Ellie, we’re building modern tools for metadata management and enterprise data collaboration. As a Product Owner, you’ll work closely with customers, your dedicated product team, and our marketing department to uncover market needs and deliver impactful, customer-focused solutions. This role is perfect for a data expert transitioning into product ownership or a seasoned product professional experienced with enterprise tools like data catalogs, data warehouses, or data modeling platforms.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with customers and the market: Engage directly with users and key stakeholders to understand their challenges in metadata management, data governance, and the modern data stack.
  • Conduct market research: Work closely with our marketing department to analyze trends, identify opportunities, and position Ellie’s solutions effectively in the market.
  • Own and manage your team’s backlog: Prioritize and refine tasks to align with customer needs, market opportunities, and product goals.
  • Act as the domain expert: Leverage your knowledge of metadata tools, data governance frameworks, and enterprise data management to guide product development.
  • Drive innovation with AI: Collaborate with your team to explore and integrate AI-driven capabilities into the product.
  • Ensure alignment: Serve as the bridge between customers, marketing, and your team, translating insights into actionable deliverables and ensuring everyone is on the same page.

What Success Looks Like

After 3 months:

  • You’ve built relationships with customers and conducted initial market research with the marketing team to refine Ellie’s positioning in metadata management.
  • You’ve familiarized yourself with Ellie’s product, team processes, and backlog management practices.
  • You’ve helped deliver a feature informed by both customer feedback and market insights.

After 6 months:

  • You’re confidently managing the team backlog, aligning priorities with customer needs and broader market trends.
  • You’ve led your team to implement innovative features for metadata management and data governance, creating value for customers.
  • Customers and internal teams view you as a trusted expert and advocate for enterprise data solutions.

After 12 months:

  • You’ve established yourself as the go-to expert for metadata management and enterprise data solutions within Ellie.
  • Your contributions have driven customer satisfaction and positioned Ellie as a leader in the metadata management space.
  • You’ve developed metrics to evaluate feature success and contributed to thought leadership in the field.

What You Bring

We’re open to candidates with either of these backgrounds:

  1. A Data Architect or Enterprise Data Leader looking to transition into a product-focused role.
  2. A Product Person with experience working on enterprise tools like data catalogs, data warehouses, or data modeling platforms.

Essential skills include:

  • Expertise in metadata management (e.g., data catalogs, lineage, glossaries) and modern metadata tools.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, ISO standards) and enterprise data ecosystems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with customers, marketing, and development teams to drive product innovation.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise tools, data warehouses, or AI-driven solutions.
  • Experience managing a team backlog in an agile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Practical Details

  • Our office is in Lauttasaari, Helsinki; we work in a hybrid model (usually a few office days per week)
  • Monthly salary: €4,000–€5,500
  • Option program for employees, so you’ll have equity opportunities as we grow.
